82. George Herbert REYNOLDS [313] 37 was born on 4 May 1920 in Salford (Manchester), , Lancashire, England37 and died on 29 Feb 1972 in Wimslow, , Cheshire, England,37,58 at age 51.

General Notes: MEMORIES OF MY DAD by Kathleen Reynolds:
My dad was handsome with black wavy hair and large dark brown eyes. He used Brylcream to style his hair and smoked a pipe using St Bruno tobacco. I think my brother Kevin looks like him the most. When I was young dad would give us 3d pocket money on Friday's when he got paid and bring us a choc-stick (toffee stick with chocolate inside) or a Barley Sugar stick home from work, not always regular, but appreciated when we got it. We lived in Salford, Manchester where my dad was born and bred. I was born in Liverpool where my mum was born and bred. My parents married after the war in 1946 at Liverpool Register Office. They both served in the British Army, dad in the Royal Engineers and then with Wingate's Chindit's in Burma. Mum served in the A.T.S joining at 15 years of age with her sister Jane's birth certificate, she served for 4 years until she was 19 years old. I don't know how they met or whether or not they knew each other in the Army. They lived in Liverpool until I was a year old, then moved to Salford to live with my dad's mother's (Edith Raw) at 39 Lodge Lane. I don't ever remember my dad hitting me, he was quite a patient man. When we lived in Salford dad had a Haulage Contracting business and sometimes I would go out in the Lorry with him to Liverpool or the Manchester Docks. What I liked most was going into the transport cafe for a mug of tea and a bacon and sausage sandwich. Mum and dad were always separating, it was like that from my earliest memories to when they divorced in 1963. I know dad was devastated and always wanted mum back but she had met Billy France who later became my father-in-law. I loved Bill very much, he was always like a father to me, but I did remember who was my real dad. We lost touch over the years and as I got older I wanted to get to know him better, I wanted him to see my son Dominic, his first grandchild and meet my husband Dominic who also wanted to meet him. I made arrangements with my brother Kevin who lived in Salford, to bring him to Liverpool to see us, which he did, but they went to the pub and dad got sick and Kev had to take him back to Salford without me seeing him, I was upset but Kev promised to bring him to see me the next time he could bring him down to Liverpool. I never got the chance again dad died from stomach cancer in February 1972. I have always regretted that I never got the chance to tell him that I loved him. When my son Dom was 3 years old he had a dream about going into a tunnel and at the end of the tunnel was light with people standing around and a man was standing there staring at him, I asked him to describe the man.... he described my dad. About a year later I was visiting my brother Kev and his family at their house, they had just got a photo of dad enlarged and put on their sideboard in the living room, as we walked in Dom noticed the photo and told me that he was the man in the tunnel. Many years later when I was due to give birth to my son Steve I was having problems, I was already two weeks overdue so they had taken me into hospital and given me a pill to bring on the labour, I was in pain all night and the following morning the contractions stopped, this process continued for the next two nights. They told me they would have to do a caesarean section, I was terrified of having an operation. That night as I lay in bed unable to sleep, I could smell St Bruno tobacco around my bed, I sat up and looked around but could see nobody there, I knew my dad was watching over me and this gave me great comfort. When Steve was born I had a very painful, but natural birth and we were both well.

100. Thomas Emmet LITTLE [11] 23 was born on 20 Mar 1949 in Hudson, Columbia, New York and died on 5 Aug 2010 in , , Badakhshan Province, Afghanistan, at age 61.

Death Notes: Tom was leading a team of six Americans, two Afghans, one German and a Briton, when slain by the Taliban in the northern province of Badakhshan, Afghanistan. The team was attacked while returning to Kabul after a two-week mission providing eye and other health care in remote villages in the Parun valley of Nuristan province about 160 miles (260 kilometers) north of Kabul. The bullet-riddled bodies were found near three four-wheeled drive vehicles in a wooded area just off the main road through a narrow valley in the Kuran Wa Munjan district of Badakhshan.

Burial Notes: He was buried at The British Cemetery, Kabul, Afghanistan.

General Notes: Since about 1984, Tom and his wife Libby have spent most of his time in Afghanistan but maintained a permanent residence at Delmar, Albany County, New York. Their three daughters were educated at the Woodstock School, India.

From his Memorial Service 9 Oct 2010 at the Loudonville Community Church, Loudonville, New York: Tom little lived in Afghanistan. It was his and Libby's home for thirty-three years. They raised their three daughters there. They lived there, not here. They stayed there, under every political regime, from the communist, through the civil war, through the Taliban, through the current situation.
Tom came from a small, peaceful town in update New York. He had a good education and every opportunity available to Americans, but he chose to live and work in Afghanistan. He honed his professional skills and applied them to the Afghan situation. He had a ridiculously low salary for an American optometrist, but he still chose to live in Afghanistan. He literally helped the blind to see, in a place with little eye care. He set up hospitals, clinics, eye camps, and helped to train eye care staff, from custodians to surgeons. He did this for and with the Afghan people, in cities and villages.
Tom was a Christian. His love for and service to the Afghan people came from his love for and serviced to God. God had called him to give his life away in service to others. Tom's idea of how to live life came from the example of Christ. Tom was not there to convert or impose his faith on Afghans, but to be their friend. His faith was lived out in their midst. If some were attracted to his faith, who could blame them?
We should not make Tom to be more than he was. He would be the first to say he was a flawed human being. However, he knew he was a forgiven man and that enabled him to live at peace, with God and those around him. The proof of his admirable character and extraordinary meaningful live is found in what he did, especially where he chose to live, and where he died.
As for the way he died, he would echo Jesus' words: "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." As for when he died, it was a tragic loss for Afghanistan, and a terrible shock to his family, friends and colleagues. As for where he died, Tom Little lived, died, and his body was buried in Afghanistan. He probably would not have wanted it any other way.
"And I heard a voice from heaven saying, "Blessed are the dead who from now on die in the Lord. Yes, says the Spirit, They will rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them." Revelations 14:15.

In Feb 2011, Barack Obama, President, United States, awarded the Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian recognition a person can receive for their contributions to the nation's security or national interest, to Tom Little (posthumously) and 13 others.

Noted events in his life were:

He was employed. 452 NOOR, a program of the Kabul based International Assistance Mission, has operated almost continually in Afghanistan since 1966. And although it receives no government funding, NOOR provides the majority of eye-care services in Afghanistan.
Tom Little, or Mr. Tom as he is called by the Afghans who work under him, oversees NOOR's three 40- to 45- bed eye hospitals, one in each of the country's three major cities of Kabul, Heart, and Mazar-i-Sharif, as well as a number of smaller 8- to 10-bed facilities in the smaller cities of Khost, Nilli and Talaqon. The program also provides support and pays the doctors and technicians at the Ministry of Health's main hospital in Kabul, an 80-bed facility. NOOR operates roughly a dozen eye camps throughout the country each year, as well as a number of day clinics just outside of the cities containing the major hospitals. All told, NOOR facilities saw 234,570 outpatients in 2003, and operated on more than 14,000.

103. Frederick Reynolds LITTLE [13] 395 was born on 15 Nov 1957 in Hudson, Columbia, New York395 and died on 21 Feb 2025 in Littlestown, Adams, Pennsylvania,395 at age 67.

Death Notes: Fred bravely fought a seven-year battle with cancer. His decline was gradual over those years, and in recent weeks he was under the compassionate care of family and hospice. It was Fred's decision to spend his final days in the comfort of his own home surrounded by things and people he loved most.

Obituary - Cremation Society of Pennsylvania: Frederick R. Little, 67, of Littlestown, PA, affectionately known as Fred, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, following a hard-fought and prolonged battle with cancer. In classic Fred style, he faced it with a mix of wry humor and a stubborn refusal to give in easily. He was born on November 15, 1957. (He always claimed he forgot the exact date because once Alexis was born three days later in November, his calendar became a perpetual "Alexis Month" celebration.)

Fred was a devoted husband to Shelly M. Little (née Nephew) and a loving father to daughter Alexis R. Smith (née Little) and son-in-law Alec M. Smith. He cherished his family and found immense joy in their company. Beyond his immediate family, he also served as a cherished father figure and role model for his nieces and nephews, guiding them with wisdom and unwavering support. Out in the world, Fred was a wonderful tour guide and expert navigator for his family and friends, with seemingly endless curiosity and knowledge about the world around him. Fred had a keen sense of direction and historical knowledge mixed with the right amount of humor; if there was ever a subject he didn't know, he found immense joy in making it up on the spot (whether those around him knew it or not)!

Fred was also a soft touch when it came to his furry companions. Over the years, he showered love on Buttons, Maggie, Blimpy, Emma, Maya, Henry, and Sneakers. He'd always grumble, "No more pets!" yet somehow, they kept finding their way to his doorstep, a testament to his secretly big heart.

He was the son of the late Henry O. Little and Jane V. Little (née Hoffmann). Fred is survived by his siblings James, Henry, John, Mary, and Elizabeth, and was predeceased by his brother Thomas E. Little. "Uncle Fred" was dearly loved by his nieces and nephews, who admired him for his playful spirit and his talent for entertaining them and making life fun. (Though, let's be honest, he sometimes wondered if some of them knew where Littlestown was on a map.)

Fred was previously married to Michelle (née Carpentier) in 1981. True to his kind nature, he maintained a friendship with her and held her in high regard.

Graduating in 1979, Fred studied Broadcast Engineering from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, where he forged lifelong friendships as a member of the Pi Alpha Nu fraternity. Fred launched his career in the 80s as a radio DJ at WEAV and WIRY, becoming a recognized presence in Plattsburgh, NY. Throughout the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, he extended his reach and celebrated with numerous couples and families throughout the North Country by DJing weddings and anniversaries on weekends. He also became a regular requested DJ at Dannys Pub/American Legion in Rouses Point, NY and would pack the house every time he had a wedding-free Saturday night.

In 1991, his professional path led him to the pharmaceutical industry, where he spent many years at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in Rouses Point, NY. Fred's dedication and expertise allowed him to continue his career in pharmaceuticals when he moved to Littlestown, PA with his wife, Shelly and daughter, Alexis. He displayed a wide range of expertise within the pharmaceutical industry, serving in Compliance and Quality Assurance for several companies, including Shire, Novartis, and Catalent, before retiring in 2022.

In accordance with Fred's wishes, a small, intimate gathering for close family and friends will be held later in the year, when the weather warms.

He will be remembered for his warm personality, his dedication to his family, his diverse and impactful contributions to both the broadcasting and pharmaceutical industries, and the joy he brought to his nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Noted events in his life were:

He graduated from State University of New York in 1979 in Plattsburgh, Clinton, New York. 395 He worked as a Technical Writer, Shire Pharmaceuticals in 2005 at Owning Mills, Baltimore, Maryland. 395 He had a residence in 2005 at Littlestown, Adams, Pennsylvania. 395 He was employed as a Consultant, Novartis in Jan 2010 in Suffern, Rockland, New York. 395

It was stated that Mrs. Carrick died at Easter week-end from poisoning caused by an overdose of barbiturate aggravated by the effect of alcohol.
The husband, 32-year-old Mr. Geoffrey Michael Carrick, said that his wife had been receiving medical treatment and the tablets had been prescribed. On March 31st she went to bed in the early evening and he was out until midnight. When he returned home he saw there was a light in the bedroom and found her lying with two empty bottles, which had contained tablets, at the bedside. He immediately telephoned for a doctor.
